Double sided plated

PCBs with plated holes

A plated through hole is a hole that has been plated with copper and connects the top layer of the board with the bottom layer (and intermediate layers).  The plating is done by a galvanic process thats builds a thin layer (typically 20-25 µm) of copper in the holes. A PCB with plated holes must be at least double sided but can contain several inner layers as the plating can connect tracks that are routed on one layer with tracks routed on another layer.
